Thermoplastic playground markings on poor quality tarmac

Thermoplastic playground markings are usually placed on good quality  new tarmac but sometime we have to install on poor quality tarmac. This is  not a big problem for first4playgrounds and we can still have great results. The process involves more preparation of the surface . Below is pictures of the process involved

First we brush the loose tarmac away to create a smooth tarmac surface. We then dry it  using a gas burner to make sure there is no moisture left on the surface of the tarmac .

All moss and mud is removed from the tarmac with a wire brush, this process can sometimes produce more moisture which is then burnt away with the gas burner .

Finally we use a compound primer on the area where the markings will be placed.Once the primer is dry we lay the Thermoplastic markings onto the tarmac and heat the markings until they have firmly adhered to the tarmac.

Thermoplastic playground installation process explained.

Many people see the bright colourful playground markings in their School playgrounds and wonder how do we do it. We make all of our playground markings from non toxic Thermoplastic material which are  cut into  designs .We have many colourful fun and educational playground markings ranging from Maps of the world and uk to Number and alphabet snakes and crocodiles and educational markings such as fractions , compasses , maths mazes, times tables grids We also install Sports court markings such as netball courts, short tennis / football pitches.Below are some pictures and videos showing the installation process. We installed a bike track and activity trail at Woodlawn special school in newcastle .Firstly we  draw out  where the makings go and then we place the  thermoplastic designs ready to be burnt onto the tarmac. Sometime the tarmac needs to be prepped first and if it old tarmac we would prime it first .The material is quite brittle if it is cold and once the markings are placed, we burn them onto the playground surface using a gas burner. We also use glass crystals to sprinkle on top of the markings to create a non slip surface.
